Our Building Names
Berri Regional Secondary College has named our new and existing buildings after persons of significance from Glossop High Schools long history. After the Governing Council considered community recommendations for names of significance, the following names have been chosen. At Berri Regional Secondary College, we are proud to announce to our community our new building names and their connection to Glossop High School.
This building is named in recognition of
Vice Admiral John Glossop,
name-sake for the township of Glossop, SA. Vice Admiral Glossop captained the HMAS Sydney throughout World War I, contributing to the freedom and democracy of Australia.
This building is named in recognition of
Mr Wybert Symonds,
the founding Principal of Glossop High School. Mr Symonds was responsible for many of the lasting structures of the school, including the Mount Gambier Exchange and naming our sporting houses: Deakin, Parkes, McIntosh, Hughes.
This building is named in recognition of
Clem Till,
the first chair of the Glossop High School Governing Council. Mr Till remained an active member of the school’s Governing Council for over two decades, providing valuable connections between the school and the parent body.
This building is named in recognition of
Mrs Heather Ingerson,
the longest serving teacher of Glossop High School. Mrs Ingerson dedicated over 45 years of service between 1962 to 2015 providing quality educational opportunities and advocating success for all students.
This building is named in recognition of
Mr Alan Delaine,
original 1941 scholar and avid supporter of Glossop High School throughout its rich 80 year history. Mr Delaine epitomises the spirit of Glossop High School, setting a strong example of determination, safety, respect and learning for all students.
This building is named in recognition of the
Duncan Family
alumni and their strong community support of Glossop High School. Garry, Mark and Greg Duncan are acknowledged for their significant contributions to the fields of Visual and Media Arts.
This building is named in recognition of
Mr Howard Mortimer
who was instrumental in the founding Glossop High School. Mr Mortimer and a small group of like-minded community members remained determined in their pursuit for local educational opportunities for the Berri, Barmera and surrounding communities and as a result of his advocacy, Glossop High School was opened in 1941.
This building is named in recognition of
Mr Bevin Brooks,
the longest serving Principal of Glossop High School. Mr Brooks served as Principal from 2001 to 2013. He was instrumental in the advocacy and development of the Berri Campus and was a passionate supporter of The Arts within education.
This building is named in recognition of
Mrs Margaret Evans,
long-standing Mayor of Berri Barmera Council and active supporter of Glossop High School. Mrs Evans was instrumental in building a strong connection between the wider community and Glossop High School, promoting school spirit throughout the region.
This building is named in recognition of
Ms Rebecca Richards.
A graduating member of Glossop High School alumni 2004, Ms Richards was Australia’s first Indigenous Rhodes Scholar in 2010 and is honoured for her significant contributions within the field of Anthropology.
