Aboriginal education
We obtain high SACE completion rates and positive post-school pathways for our Aboriginal students. We offer specialist programs that support attendance and engagement and have a whole-school commitment to celebrating culture and promoting reconciliation.
Cultural Garden
Our cultural garden is a vibrant, living classroom designed to bring Aboriginal perspectives into the heart of our school community.
It represents our commitment to reconciliation, cultural respect, and authentic learning experiences for all students.
It features a diversity of native plants, and students actively engage with these plants to discover their traditional uses for food, medicine, fibre, and tools.
The garden serves as a platform for students to learn traditional artefact making under the guidance of Aboriginal community members and specialists.
Activities may include crafting tools, weaving, or other creative practices that have been passed down through generations.
Importantly, the space is designed for ceremony and community connection, offering a place to come together for cultural events, celebrations, and storytelling.
By providing a welcoming and inclusive environment, our Cultural Garden promotes a sense of belonging, cultural pride, and reconciliation.
SAASTA
We are proud to serve as the host and lead school for the South Australian Aboriginal Secondary Training Academy (SAASTA) in the Riverland.
SAASTA is a statewide program designed to enhance educational and career outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10-12. Through SAASTA, students engage in accredited SACE curriculum, leadership development, and cultural learning, while accessing unique opportunities such as industry partnerships, sports academies, and career pathways.
Our award-winning program is dedicated to nurturing the academic success, cultural identity, and future aspirations of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, ensuring they are equipped for lifelong learning and leadership in our community and beyond.
The Clontarf Foundation
A national, non-profit organisation, the Clontarf Foundation operates an academy program at BRSC to provide activities, camps and workplace visits for male Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, developing capacity and life skills. The Berri Academy is a safe, welcoming environment where positive relationships are forged. It is also an important school engagement mechanism for many at-risk students who would otherwise not attend or have low school attendance.
Full-time, locally-based Clontarf staff mentor and counsel students to improve self-esteem and confidence.
