Students have been exploring an area of personal interest as part of Activating Identities and Futures (AIF), which is designed to develop independent learning skills.
They guide their own learning through a process known as self-directed inquiry, asking questions, researching, and exploring ideas that matter to them.
The ultimate goal is to help students to grow important capabilities and prepare them for post-school pathways.
AIF is a SACE Stage 2 subject that is offered in Year 11 at BRSC and students presented their projects towards the end of Term 2.
Student Quentin combined his passion for art with school pride by designing a concept for a new uniform.
“I don’t like the regular designs of the school shirts, so I wanted to create something that would really pop and represent me as well,” he said.
His design features the journey of a fish alongside the words ‘journey, community, and pride’.
Student Lauren explored new artistic techniques by creating textured canvases using modelling paste.
“I found the colour trails really interesting and I enjoyed the journey of learning how to do it,” she said.
For Abigail, learning to sculpt and paint with air-dry clay complemented her goal of pursuing dentistry.
“I picked it because it would bring my creative work into it and balance it with my Year 11 work,” she said.
Roxy researched Japanese culture while crafting a traditional paper fan, discovering that “it’s just paper but it takes a long time to make it perfect”.
JJ designed and created a dress for the SAASTA Gala using recycled curtains for mesh and is excited to model the finished gown.
