Year 8 students left the classrooms for a three-day camp full of old-school outdoor activities at Woodhouse Adventure Park in the Adelaide Hills in Week 8 of Term 2.

The camp gave students the opportunity to leave books and routines behind and to spend their days having fun cooking, going down tube slides, completing survivor challenges and obstacle courses and playing laser skirmish.

Year 7 and 8 leader Jamie Milburn said it was an opportunity to connect.

“The kids had the opportunity to have a lot of say about what they wanted to participate in through our year level assemblies throughout the course of the year,” he said.

“Nighttime was a really good chance for us to have debriefs, have a chat among students and staff, and I think that’s where the real connections came from.

“They were washing dishes, and cleaning dorms, but that’s all part of life-skills.”

Student Scarlett said she enjoyed the activities and opportunity to spend time with other students and staff.

Students enjoy time together and fun activities

“We had a good break from school and learning, even though it was wet and raining the whole time, it was a good chance to bond and learn some skills,” she said.

“The tube slide was pretty cool, the first time was a bit scary but after that it was just fun.”

Ruby said the highlight was being together.

“Even though we’re together every day at school, it was just very different being outside the school community, I liked being with everyone and the activities were really fun too.

Fletcher loved the laser skirmish and tube slide.

“They were just really fun.”
